Why We Created KINA | A Mindful Movement Studio in Austell, GA

Why We Created KINA | A Mindful Movement Studio in Austell, GA

If you've ever walked into a fitness studio and immediately felt like you didn't belong, you're not alone.

Maybe the music felt too loud. Maybe the classes felt intimidating. Maybe everyone seemed to know exactly what they were doing while you stood there wondering if you should leave before class even started.

Or maybe you've simply been carrying the weight of everyday life and haven't had the energy for another high-intensity workout.

We created KINA because we believed there should be another option.  A space where movement feels supportive instead of overwhelming.  A space where people can reconnect with their bodies without pressure, comparison, or the expectation to perform.  A space where movement becomes part of healing.

Welcome to KINA.

What Is KINA?

KINA is a mindful movement studio located in Austell, Georgia, offering yoga, mat Pilates, somatic movement, breathwork, and restorative classes designed to support the body and nervous system.

The name KINA is inspired by movement itself.  At its root, the word reflects motion, energy, and the body's natural ability to move. But for us, KINA means something deeper.

It represents movement that feels intentional...

...movement that helps you slow down...

..movement that helps you reconnect with yourself.

While many fitness spaces focus primarily on physical transformation, KINA was created with a more holistic approach.  We believe movement impacts far more than muscles.  It influences stress levels, sleep quality, emotional well-being, confidence, energy, posture, focus, and overall quality of life.  Our goal is not to create the hardest workout in town, but instead create a movement practice you can actually sustain.

The Problem We Kept Seeing

KINA was born from years of working with clients through our sister company, Soma.  As a holistic esthetician, I spend hours every week helping people care for their skin. Over time, I noticed something important.

Many of the concerns clients brought into the treatment room weren't only skin-related.  They were exhausted, overstimulated, carrying tension in their shoulders, neck, jaw, and chest, or even living in a constant state of stress.

Many were struggling with sleep, anxiety, burnout, and a feeling of being disconnected from their bodies.  And while skincare treatments offered support, it became increasingly clear that true wellness required something more.

The body needed movement...not punishment or pressure, not another thing to fail at.

Just movement. Intentional movement.

That realization eventually became KINA.

Movement Doesn't Have to Be Extreme to Be Effective

For years, the fitness industry has pushed the idea that harder is always better, but that's not the reality for many people.  Especially women balancing careers, families, caregiving responsibilities, and the constant demands of everyday life.

Many people aren't looking for another thing that leaves them depleted.  They're looking for something that helps them feel better.  That's why KINA focuses on classes that support the body rather than punish it.

Our classes are designed to help you build strength, improve mobility, increase flexibility, enhance balance, and support nervous system regulation.

You can challenge yourself here.  But you don't have to prove yourself here.

Yoga at KINA

Yoga is one of the foundations of our studio.  Our yoga classes are designed to help students improve flexibility, mobility, strength, breath awareness, and overall well-being.  Whether you're completely new to yoga or returning after years away, our classes are approachable and welcoming.

Many people assume they need to be flexible before trying yoga.  The truth is that yoga helps you become more flexible and doesn't require experience or special skills to execute.  You simply need a willingness to show up.

Benefits of yoga may include:

  • Increased flexibility
  • Improved balance
  • Better posture
  • Reduced stress
  • Enhanced body awareness
  • Improved mobility
  • Greater mental clarity
  • Better sleep quality

Mat Pilates at KINA

Mat Pilates is one of the most effective ways to build strength without high-impact exercise.  Our Pilates classes focus on core stability, posture, muscular endurance, alignment, and controlled movement.  Unlike workouts that rely on speed or momentum, Pilates teaches you how to move with intention.  It helps strengthen the deep stabilizing muscles that support everyday movement.

Many students find that Pilates improves not only their strength but also their confidence and connection to their bodies.

Benefits of Pilates may include:

  • Improved core strength
  • Better posture
  • Increased flexibility
  • Enhanced body awareness
  • Improved balance
  • Greater muscular endurance
  • Reduced risk of injury

Somatic Movement at KINA

One of the things that makes KINA unique is our focus on somatic movement.  Many people have never heard the term before.  Somatic movement focuses on how movement feels rather than how it looks.  So, instead of forcing the body into specific shapes or positions, somatic practices encourage awareness, exploration, and nervous system regulation.

These classes can be especially supportive for people experiencing:

  • Chronic stress
  • Burnout
  • Tension
  • Physical discomfort
  • Nervous system dysregulation
  • Feelings of disconnection from their bodies

Somatic movement invites you to slow down and listen.  In a world that constantly asks us to do more, that can be incredibly powerful.

Breathwork and Nervous System Support

Breathing is something we do every day, yet most of us rarely pay attention to it.  The way we breathe influences our nervous system, stress response, focus, energy, and emotional state.

Throughout many of our classes, breath awareness is intentionally woven into movement.  This creates a more grounded experience and helps students develop tools they can use beyond the studio walls.

The goal is never perfection, the goal is presence.

A Studio for Real People

One of our biggest priorities when creating KINA was accessibility.  Not accessibility only in terms of movement modifications, but accessibility in how the space feels.

We wanted to create a studio where:

  • Beginners feel welcome
  • Movement doesn't feel intimidating
  • Different body types are celebrated
  • People can move at their own pace
  • Progress isn't measured by comparison
  • Community matters

You do not need to be the fittest person in the room...

...you do not need expensive workout clothes...

...you do not need prior experience...

...you simply need to begin.

Why We Chose Austell

Austell is growing.  So are the surrounding communities of Powder Springs, Lithia Springs, Mableton, and West Cobb.  Yet many residents still find themselves driving long distances for movement classes that align with their needs.  We believed our community deserved something closer, something rooted in wellness, and something centered around connection.

KINA was created to serve the people who live, work, and raise families here.

We wanted a space that felt local.  A space where people could build relationships, support one another, and create sustainable wellness practices together.

More Than Classes

While movement classes are at the heart of KINA, our vision extends beyond the schedule.  We envision KINA becoming a gathering place for wellness-focused experiences including:

  • Community events
  • Workshops
  • Breathwork sessions
  • Wellness education
  • Mindfulness practices
  • Seasonal offerings
  • Collaborative experiences with local practitioners

We believe wellness happens in community, and we're excited to create opportunities for connection both inside and outside the classroom.

What We Hope You, Feel When You Walk Through Our Doors

When people think about movement, they often think about physical results.  At KINA, we hope you experience something more.  We hope you feel welcomed and supported.  We hope you feel capable and leave feeling a little more connected to yourself than when you arrived.

Because movement isn't just about changing your body.  It's about creating a relationship with your body.  One built on trust, awareness, and care.

That's why we created KINA.  And we can't wait to move with you.
